More than 5,000 flights canceled in the United States due to the storm which spreads from Texas to Maine
Airlines have canceled some 5,000 domestic and international flights in the United States including thousands of flights departing from George Bush International Airport in Houston due to the severe winter storm that is spreading across several states from Texas to Maine , according to the National Weather Service.
According to the NWS bulletin, this “huge and large-scale” winter storm will affect central, eastern and southern regions of the United States in the coming days.
“Heavy snowfall is expected from the Rocky Mountains south to New England, while deep frosts are expected from Texas to Pennsylvania,” the forecast adds.
According to data from FlightAware, which monitors the regularity of commercial air traffic, the airport most affected this morning by delays and cancellations was Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas), followed by Chicago O’Hare International Airport ( Illinois).
In areas where, on the contrary, there are warm conditions, the NWS predicts that there will be strong storms with heavy rains and flooding along the central area of the Gulf Coast.
The storm, which meteorologists dubbed “Landon,” brought heavy snowfall to Kansas cities such as Topeka and Augusta and heavy rain to other cities like Louisville, Ky., while keeping others high alert areas like the state of Vermont, where expect snowfall of up to 30 centimeters.
The media reminded the population of the need to take measures to prevent the pipes from freezing and the Red Cross recommended that a stable temperature be maintained, day and night, inside the houses.
