Skymiles and Skyteam have introduced a new tool, Miles & Cash, which allows you to supplement in cash 12.5% or 25% of the value of your award ticket. So, is it better to wait until you have all the points you need to purchase an award ticket or use the Miles & Cash option?

How to use Delta SkyMiles for gift cards?
Delta SkyMiles, the airline’s frequent flyer club, lets you use miles for flights, hotels, rental cars and merchandise. Gift cards are available through the “Marketplace” page on the SkyMiles site, and miles are deducted from your account. You must have a account with a registered PIN code to perform this transaction.

Open an Internet browser and go to the SkyMiles web page. If you are a new user with a account, click on SkyMiles Registration to create your PIN and account name.
Click on the “market” link. Navigate the browser to “Gift Cards” and shop for cards of your choice. Select cards based on how many miles are deducted from your account. Make sure you have the miles available in your account.
Go to the check-out page and remit payment via the SkyMiles account. Provide the address of a physical gift card to be sent to, or where possible, email request for gift cards for use on online shopping sites.
