Earn miles and use them to travel on the various airlines of Delta and its partners
Who has never heard of miles, those “points” distributed to travelers by airlines on every flight? The principle is simple: the more a passenger performs long-distance flights, the more “miles” he earns. As part of a loyalty program, these miles offer several advantages such as free flights, the possibility of being upgraded or even reductions with several non-airline partners.
Loyalty programs are unique to each airline, which means that the conditions for obtaining and validating them differ from carrier to carrier. However, thanks to the three major airline alliances (Star Alliance, SkyTeam and Oneworld), there is a certain homogeneity between the programs. Thus, the number of miles allocated is generally equal to the distance traveled in nautical miles. This number is multiplied by travel class: a business class passenger will earn twice as many miles, while a first passenger will earn three times as many.
Delta Air Lines offers its passengers the Skymiles program which allows its members to earn and use points towards free stays, upgrades and flights, with no blackout dates.

Combine your miles and money to pay for a reservation (Miles+Cash)
Skymiles and Skyteam have introduced a new tool, Miles & Cash, which allows you to supplement in cash 12.5% or 25% of the value of your award ticket. So, is it better to wait until you have all the points you need to purchase an award ticket or use the Miles & Cash option?
In fact, the amount per mile purchased varies per cabin. To better understand, let’s take the example of a return ticket between New York and Paris. The CPM is the lowest when you need to complete a ticket in the Economy cabin because you will then be charged 1 hundred $, in Premium Economy, the purchased mile will cost 1.2 hundred $, in Business 1.5 hundred $ and finally in La Première, it will cost you $ 2.75 hundred per mile to complete your ticket.
Cash & Miles versus purchasing Miles
At the same time, the Skyteam program continues to offer its mileage purchase offer. Conversely, if you wish to travel in La Première and if your balance is not sufficient, it is better to purchase your miles separately. Thus, in the case of the current promotion which offers + 75% of miles purchased, the CPM will then be € 1.57 cents compared to € 2.75 cents with the Miles & Cash option.
